A much-changed Charlton Athletic were dumped out of the Carabao Cup 5-3 on penalties by League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

Having made 11 changes to the side which beat Stoke City in the Championship on Saturday, the Addicks played out a goalless draw at The Valley.

Forest Green were perfect from 12 yards with Albie Morgan’s attempt hitting the post for Charlton to send the visitors through.

Brentford also experienced a similar fate at Griffin Park, losing 5-4 on penalties to League Two outfit Cambridge United after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Veteran striker Marc Richards had given the visitors the lead after three minutes before Brentford’s Marcus Forss levelled mid-way through the second half .

In the shoot-out, Harvey Knibbs scored the winning spot-kick for Cambridge after Bees defender Luka Racic was denied by Callum Burton.

There was better news for QPR though, who managed to win their penalty shoot-out 5-4 against fellow Championship side Bristol City at The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

The end-to-end encounter finished 3-3 after 90 minutes with Nahki Wells, Ilias Chair and a late Ryan Manning strike cancelling out Famara Diedhiou, Jack Hunt and Liam Walsh goals for Bristol City.

And at penalties, QPR goalkeeper Liam Kelly saved Bailey Wright’s effort to send the Hoops through to the next round.
