Charlton Athletic urge fans to support Greenwich Foodbank this Christmas

Charlton Athletic are urging fans to donate to the Greenwich Foodbank ahead of tonight’s Championship game against Hull City.

Supporters will be able to bring non-perishable food to The Valley collection point at the West Stand car park from 6.15pm onwards.

All items collected will be given to the Greenwich Foodbank who operate eight foodbanks in the Borough, and are in desperate need of supplies during the Christmas period.

Last Christmas the club joined forces with Fans Supporting Foodbanks and Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust to provide more than 1,000 meals for local people.

On the return of the initiative, Alan Robinson of Greenwich Foodbank said: “We are very pleased to hear Charlton Athletic are once again going to host a donation site at The Valley to enable fans to make contributions to our food stock.

“During the summer the requirement for our service was so high that we very nearly ran out of supplies so the knowledge that Charlton fans will be generously donating next week is a great boost to our confidence that our supply will keep up with the ever increasing demand, particularly at this busy time of year.”

Types of non-perishable donations requested are: biscuits, long-life juice, long-life milk, tinned rice pudding, tinned fruit, tinned carrots, tinned peas, canned meat or fish, spreads (such as jam, peanut butter, honey), cereal, pasta sauce and toilet roll.

If you are unable to make it to the game or would like to donate away from the matchday, you will find more information on the Greenwich Foodbank website.
