AFC Wimbledon recorded a second home win of the week as a late Joe Pigott penalty sealed a 1-0 victory over 10-man Peterborough.

Following their excellent 2-0 win over Doncaster at the weekend, the forward’s 87th minute penalty moved the Dons to just four points away from League One safety.

In an even opening 45 minutes, Anthony Wordsworth and Steve Seddon went closest for the hosts while at the other end Matt Godden fired wide for Posh.

Peterborough started stronger after the interval with Dons keeper Aaron Ramsdale called into action to deny both Ivan Toney and Marcus Maddison.

Wimbledon substitute Dylan Connolly then saw a fierce effort hit the crossbar before being recklessly fouled in the box by Rhys Bennett late on.

Bennett was duly dismissed and Pigott stepped up to convert the resultant spot-kick to give Wimbledon a fourth win in six league games.
