Derby County vs Millwall, Championship Preview

1 min

After booking their place in the FA Cup Quarter-Finals at the weekend, it’s back to league duty for Millwall this evening as they face Derby County at Pride Park (kick-off 7:45pm).

It promises to be an intriguing encounter with the Lions sitting just two points above the drop zone whilst the Rams will be aiming to move into the top six with a win.

Shaun Hutchinson is expected to return to defence with Alex Pearce, on loan from Derby, unavailable for selection.

FA Cup hero Murray Wallace also looks set to deputise at left-back with James Meredith nursing a calf injury while Conor McLaughlin and Tom Bradshaw also remain sidelined.

Elsewhere Tom Elliott could partner Lee Gregory up front after his brief outing against AFC Wimbledon and Ben Marshall, Fred Onyedinma and Ben Thompson can also be considered after being cup-tied at the weekend.

Forward Gregory scored his first Lions hat-trick in a 3-3 draw against Derby in April 2015 and will be hoping the omens are once again in his favour as he aims to end a Championship goal drought, having not scored since the defeat at Deepdale on December 15th.

Derby boss Frank Lampard’s extensive Chelsea connections have proved useful for his side so far – Mason Mount joining on loan from Stamford Bridge and being a stand-out performer this season, even earning an England call-up back in October.

Meanwhile, former Blues’ team-mate Ashley Cole joined in January, netting his first ever FA Cup goal at the weekend and could be handed a first start this evening.

Prediction: 2-1 Derby County
