Sutton United fundraiser helps ‘London Football Unites for Ukraine’ campaign reach £5k mark

Sutton United’s fundraising efforts ahead of their League Two home game against Crawley Town has helped the ‘London Football Unites for Ukraine’ campaign reach another milestone.

A bucket collection, carried out by volunteers from the London branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB), saw £261 raised ahead of the Us impressive 3-0 victory at Gander Green Lane.

It means that more than £5k in total has so far been raised for British-Ukrainian Aid as the 2021/22 season draws to a close.

Launched by London Football Scene, the campaign is a response to events in Ukraine which has seen the country and its people left devastated since Russia’s invasion on February 24th.

Urging all the Capital’s clubs, players and fans to raise as much money as possible in order to help with much needed humanitarian relief, fundraising events have taken place across London including at the likes of QPR, Leyton Orient and Charlton Athletic.

On the fundraising efforts, Sutton United’s manager Matt Gray said: “It’s vital and with Sutton United being a community club, backing the campaign is so important in the world right now.

On the initiative, London Football Scene’s Editor-in-Chief Blake Welton said: “The last few months has truly demonstrated the power of football to see people come together and unite in the darkest of times.

“Through London Football Scene, I am proud to have been able to mobilise and unite our wonderful football clubs for such a worthy, important and urgent effort.

“Raising over £5,000 before the end of the season is a fantastic achievement but as the war continues, so must our efforts.

“So I urge anyone who hasn’t donated already – supporter, player or club – to dig deep and support the cause, either now or next season.”
