Millwall extended their unbeaten run to eight league games and boosted their Play-Off credentials with an impressive 2-0 victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town at The Den.
The Lions dominated the early exchanges with Benik Afobe a constant thorn in the paw of the Terriers.
And the forward opened the scoring after 27 minutes when Jonathan Hogg’s loose pass was capitalised on by Jed Wallace with the ball ending up at his feet to coolly curl past Lee Nicholls.
Afobe should then have doubled his tally on 55 minutes, only for his finish to be tame from Mason Bennett’s cut back.
But the striker made amends two minutes later, smashing home a loose ball after Huddersfield failed to clear a Millwall free-kick.
There was little sign of a Huddersfield comeback too as Afobe was denied a hat-trick by the crossbar after a header from a corner while Daniel Ballard’s follow up was superbly denied by Nicholls.
Afobe once again came close to a third late on when his flicked header was denied by the post as a rampant Millwall moved to within two points of the top six.
