Charlton Athletic were knocked out of the FA Cup after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Premier League side Norwich City at The Valley.
The opening 45 minutes had few chances for either side with Jonathan Leko having the best opportunity to open the scoring – instead blazing over the bar following good work from Elliot Lee.
The second-half saw the Addicks on the front foot with Norwich keeper Tim Krul saving well from Lee’s close range turn and shot.
And the Charlton player could have had a penalty when he was brought down in the box, only for his claims to be waved away by the referee.
As the game progressed, space began to open up with Norwich exploiting it to take the lead against the run of play.
Substitute Teemu Pukki received the ball on the right flank before making an incisive run into the box and squaring for Milot Rashica to shoot past a helpless Stephen Henderson.
As Charlton went in search of an equaliser, Jason Pearce had a penalty shout dismissed before the defender nodded the ball into the box deep into stoppage time only to see Ben Purrington’s resultant effort hit the bar.

Key Moment
Teemu Pukki’s second-half introduction alongside Milot Rashica and Brandon Williams injected some much-needed Premier League quality into Norwich City’s play.
Moan of the Match
Charlton’s inability to create any clear cut chances despite enjoying good possession in Norwich’s half will leave manager Johnnie Jackson frustrated.
Talking Point
Are Charlton too reliant on Conor Washington and Jayden Stockley for their goals? Without either the Addicks looked toothless in attack.
Man of the Match
Elliot Lee – contributed well to all phases of play, helping Charlton retain the ball and also had the Addicks’ best chance of the game.
Tweet of the Match
Referee Watch
Josh Smith (Bedfordshire) – inconsistent in his decision-making and failed to award Charlton two possible penalties for fouls on Elliot Lee and Jason Pearce.
Atmosphere
The Covered End was proud of their team, backing them to the hilt with some gallows humour from the away end for good measure as well.
Verdict
Charlton looked far sharper than in last week’s defeat to Wycombe and can take heart from a performance against Premier League opposition – this display would get the better of most League One rivals.
