Leyton Orient reached the Third Round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2014 with a commanding 4-0 victory over fellow League Two side Tranmere Rovers at Brisbane Road.

The O’s broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute following a moment of class from Hector Kyprianou – the Cypriot gliding away from Tranmere’s defence and releasing an inch perfect pass for Harry Smith to calmly slot home.

They then doubled their lead nine minutes before the break when Tom James’ corner caused havoc in the box and Aaron Drinan unselfishly pulled the ball across the box for centre-back Omar Beckles to fire in from close range.

And the tie was put to bed shortly after the interval as Drinan powered home Orient’s first goal from the penalty spot since January 2020, following a handball from Tranmere’s Nathaniel Knight-Percival.

The rout was then complete with seven minutes to play as Kyprianou broke down the right and delivered a teasing ball across the box for Smith to prod home his second of the game.

Key Points

Check out all the key talking points and reaction from London Football Scene below…

Key Moment

Hector Kyprianou’s defence splitting pass that led to Orient taking the lead through Harry Smith was something to savour.

Moan of the Match

Some of the classist and misogynistic chants that came from a minority in the South Stand. Orient, as a club, is better than that.

Talking Point

Why can Orient demolish teams at Brisbane Road but look so tepid away from home?

Man of the Match

Hector Kyprianou – the midfielder put in a complete performance and provided two superb assists.

Tweet of the Match

Referee Watch

Scott Oldham (Lancashire) – solid display from Mr Oldham, he got the call for the penalty spot on and always looked in control of the game.

Atmosphere

As good as could be expected from a cup tie that saw two of the stands closed to home supporters.

Verdict

A comfortable afternoon for Kenny Jackett’s men as they ease into the next round and continue to put teams to the sword in E10.
