Charlton Athletic missed an opportunity to grab another impressive away win as a determined Morecambe fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at the Mazuma Stadium.

The Addicks came out of the blocks quickly and took a second minute lead as Diallang Jaiyesimi’s shot from the right sneaked past Morecambe keeper Jokull Andresson.

Conor Washington nearly doubled the advantage four minutes later only to drag his effort wide as Morecambe continued to struggle to contend with Charlton’s attacking impetus.

However, the forward didn’t have long to wait for his goal, lifting the ball over the advancing Andresson to make it 2-0 after only 27 minutes.

Morecambe were given a lifeline from the penalty spot two minutes later though, Chris Gunter fouling Cole Stockton, who duly stepped up to convert to halve the deficit.

The second-half saw Morecambe up their game and the Shrimps got their reward when Anthony O’Connor scored in the 72nd minute from an Alfie McCalmont corner.

Both sides had chances to win it at the end but ultimately had to settle for a point which still leaves Charlton undefeated under caretaker boss Johnnie Jackson.

Key Points

Key Moment

Diallang Jaiyesimi’s second minute strike set the tempo for the game, with Charlton playing with confidence against a team who initially struggled to recover from the early set-back.

Moan of the Match

One of those games that became more open as it progressed leaving spectators frustratingly wanting more as the final whistle blew.

Talking Point

Despite dominating the first-half, what could Charlton have done differently in the second period to secure the points? Was maintaining their high tempo too difficult?

Man of the Match

George Dobson –  linked defence and attack well, particularly in the opening half and was always free of a marker and looking for the ball, looking to build.

Tweet of the Match

Referee Watch

Andy Haines (Tyne & Wear) – put his foot down early doors and there was no qualms over Morecambe’s penalty – despite the travelling away support voicing their disapproval at full-time.

Atmosphere

As expected, the away fans took the lead with the atmosphere but disappointingly Morecambe didn’t make a sound until their penalty.

Verdict

“This year, to save me from tears, I’ll give it to Johnnie Jackson” – the job has to be Jackson’s after another confident Charlton performance, despite the dropped points.
