QPR and Millwall played out a 1-1 draw at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium with both sides scoring stunning goals in a breathless first-half display.

The visitors had the better of the first 45 minutes and Jed Wallace gave them a deserved lead before Rob Dickie’s strike hauled Rangers level.

In the late kick-off in League One, Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday played out a goalless encounter at a raucous Valley.

The electric atmosphere of more than 17,000 fans between both the home and away stands amplified a tense and scrappy affair, with fans allowed back into stadiums once more.

Meanwhile, Luke McCormick marked his AFC Wimbledon debut with a fine free-kick that earned his new side a 2-1 comeback win at Doncaster.

Charlie Seaman put disjointed Doncaster ahead but Ayoub Assal levelled for Wimbledon before McCormick netted the winner 16 minutes from time.

In League Two, Leyton Orient earned a point with a 1-1 draw away to Salford City.

New signing Omar Beckles put Orient into the lead on his debut before Matthew Willock fired home a screamer from the edge of the area just before half-time.

It was late despair for Football League new boys Sutton United after they fell to a 2-1 defeat in stoppage-time against Forest Green Rovers at The New Lawn.

The home side broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when striker Matt Stevens sent a looping header over the keeper at the back post.

Sutton then scored their first goal in Football League history when Omar Bugiel levelled but were unable to hold on for a point when Ebou Adams nodded home to give Forest Green an opening-day win.
