Brentford’s automatic promotion hopes are all but over after being held to a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Marcus Forss should have scored on eleven minutes as a Mads Roerslev cross found its way to the stiker just ten yards out, but his effort was straight at Cardiff keeper Alex Smithies.
Cardiff then presented Ivan Toney with a perfect opportunity to open the deadlock with the forward pouncing on a loose back-pass but Smithies was alert to the danger.
The game sparked into life in the 59th minute when a handball in the box from Ethan Pinnock gave Cardiff a penalty which was coolly dispatched by Kieffer Moore.
But Tariqe Fosu grabbed a lucky equaliser with a 30 yard effort that Smithies slipped through his hands and into his own net.
Brentford piled on the pressure in the last 20 minutes, but a lack of composure and quality let them down as they were condemned to another draw.
The result leaves Brentford in fourth and ten points off second-placed Watford with just four games left.
