QPR’s fine 2021 form continued with an impressive 3-0 win over Coventry City at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium

The Hoops were ahead inside two minutes after some intricate wide-play between Ilias Chair and Lee Wallace picked out Chris Willock in the box, who powered his header off the post and in.

Their dominance continued from there on in with Charlie Austin and Rob Dickie both seeing headers saved by Marko Marosi as Coventry struggled with QPR’s intensity.

And Mark Warburton’s side did manage to double their advantage in the 22nd minute when Coventry centre-back Michael Rose flicked the ball into his own net from a Chair corner.

The second-half then saw the impressive Chair get on the scoresheet himself – picking the ball up on the half-way line in the 68th minute, driving into the penalty box and firing a low shot into the bottom corner.

The result not only consolidates QPR’s position in the top half of the table but keeps their slim Play-Off hopes alive with eight games still to play.

Key Points

Key Moment

Ilias Chair’s neat backheel in the build-up to the first goal was as important as it was intuitive.

Moan of the Match

The only complaint for QPR would be that they didn’t win by more, with Chair, Charlie Austin and Rob Dickie all having efforts saved in the opening 45 minutes.

Talking Point

After putting in such a dominant performance and extending their unbeaten run to three games – can QPR keep their form going and squeeze into a Play-Off spot?

Man of the Match

Ilias Chair – the 23-year-old was electric throughout, combining with Chris Willock and Stefan Johansen to carve through Coventry’s midfield.

Referee Watch

Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire) – a solid performance for an official who had little to do in truth.

Atmosphere

Whether it was because of the sun shining down at the KPF Stadium or not, QPR certainly had a spring in their step.

Verdict

The game was won in a scintillating first-half of football for QPR with boss Mark Warburton undoubtedly delighted with the Hoops’ display.
