Leyton Orient grabbed a late winner over Carlisle United to win 1-0 in a dour encounter at Brunton Park.
Both teams had early half-chances to open the scoring in the opening ten minutes – Carlisle’s Callum Guy seeing a free-kick skim past the near post while O’s forward Danny Johnson’s volley forced a good save from Paul Farman.
Although Orient were pinned back for the majority of the first-half, Carlisle were wasteful in front of goal with both Guy and Aaron Hayden sending respective efforts well off target.
The second-half saw both Carlisle’s Lewis Alessandra and Orient’s Conor Wilkinson have chances within two minutes of each other, only for both efforts to narrowly flash past the post.
And with the game appearing to be petering out, Wilkinson gave Leyton Orient an unexpected winner with two minutes remaining, chipping Farman with a half volley after the Carlisle keeper had come off his line to clear.
The win moves Orient up to 11th in the table on 50 points, while Carlisle drop below them to 12th on 48 points.

Key Moment
Conor Wilkinson’s late strike gave Orient a somewhat undeserved win in a very uneventful match.
Moan of the Match
One of the worst games of football you will ever see. The lack of desire from both sides was surprising and extremely disappointing.
Talking Point
Since taking over, Jobi McAnuff has got all three of his victories on the road – how can he translate those away wins to ones at Brisbane Road?
Man of the Match
Conor Wilkinson – the best of a poor bunch, found a great late goal and worked hard to win the ball back in the midfield.
Tweet of the Match
Referee Watch
James Bell (South Yorkshire) – good game from the man in the middle, but ultimately did not have many decisions to make in a lifeless encounter.
Atmosphere
A game befitting of a cold, windy evening – there’s no doubt fans would love to be back in grounds, but many would probably have been happy to swerve this one.
Verdict
Both sides lacked quality and intensity in a horrible game of football, but three points is three points and that’s all that matters to Leyton Orient.
