Charlton Athletic capitulated at The Valley, ending the game with nine men as Blackpool ran out comfortable 3-0 victors.
After a cagey opening, the visitors opened the scoring in the tenth minute with Jerry Yates making no mistake from the penalty spot after Deji Oshilaja pulled down Ellis Sims in the box.
Five minutes later Jayden Stockley had the ball in the net, but saw his header ruled out for offside.
The rest of the half saw Charlton struggle with Blackpool’s intense pressure and the Addicks found themselves two behind when Matty Virtue’s 37th minute strike fired in off the post.
Things then went from bad to worse for Charlton three minutes after the restart when Darren Pratley was sent-off for a second bookable offence.
Blackpool soon made it 3-0 with their second penalty of the afternoon as Yates fired underneath Ben Amos to put the game to bed after just 52 minutes.
And with five minutes left to play, Chuks Aneke was shown a straight red on a chastening day for Lee Bowyer’s side.
Key Points
Check out all the key talking points and reaction from London Football Scene below…
Key Moment
Blackpool’s tenth minute opener seemed to sap any remaining Charlton confidence out of Lee Bowyer’s side and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Moan of the Match
For the sixth home game running Charlton conceded from outside the box – and it was easy to see why as Matty Virtue was given all the time in the world to pick his spot.
Talking Point
It’s fair to wonder if this Charlton team is still playing for their manager, and if not, is Bowyer’s time coming to an end?
Man of the Match
Jerry Yates – the striker made no mistake with his two penalties, deserved reward after tormenting the fragile Charlton defence throughout.
Tweet of the Match
Referee Watch
Brett Huxtable (Devon) – Blackpool’s second penalty may have been slightly soft, but it was hard to argue against the first spot-kick and Darren Pratley’s sending off.
Atmosphere
The Charlton players are lucky this game was played behind closed doors as they crumbled to a Blackpool side who played with an intensity the Addicks couldn’t match.
Verdict
Charlton’s Play-Off hopes are dead if they weren’t already and it could also be the end of Lee Bowyer’s tenure in charge as his side completely collapsed.
