QPR are out of this season’s FA Cup after losing 2-0 in extra-time to Premier League side Fulham at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

In a bright start for the visitors, Joe Bryan nearly caught QPR keeper Seny Dieng off his line with a 40-yard effort while a heroic block from Yoann Barbet denied Aleksander Mitrovic.

However, QPR could have taken a lead into half-time if it wasn’t for a superb Marek Rodak save to deny a Bright Osayi-Samuel rocket.

Fulham continued to dominate in the second period as Barbet once again cleared a second Mitrovic effort off the line just after the hour mark.

At the other end, Macauley Bonne scuffed his effort while Lyndon Dykes also came close twice before the game went to extra-time.

The Cottagers looked a different proposition in the additional 30 and duly broke the deadlock in the 104th minute when Mitrovic rolled the ball to Bobby Decordova-Reid to slam the ball home from outside the box.

And substitute Neeskens Kebano made sure of the win with a second – firing the ball into the top right corner to send Fulham into the Fourth Round.

Key Points

Check out all the key talking points and reaction from London Football Scene below…

Key Moment

Yoann Barbet denied Aleksandar Mitrovic for the second time in the 63rd minute to keep the game alive and ultimately take it to extra-time.

Moan of the Match

QPR were slow to start the second-half, allowing Fulham to take control for long periods.

Talking Point

The Hoops defended excellently but showed little goal scoring ability against a lacklustre Fulham defence.

Man of the Match

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – the Fulham midfielder constantly outpaced the Hoop’s defence leaving them with nothing left in extra- time.

Tweet of the Match

Referee Watch

Simon Hooper (Wiltshire) – a straightforward day at the office for the man in the middle with just the one card given.

Atmosphere

A minute’s silence in memory of all those who lost their lives to Covid 19 in 2020 was a powerful gesture from both sides.

Verdict

Not an FA Cup Third Round tie that will live long in the memory. There was little between the two sides but Fulham’s extra bit of quality eventually showed.
