Brentford eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over Coventry City to put their indifferent start to the season behind them at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Bees dominated from the outset with Ivan Toney twice testing Coventry keeper Marko Marosi from distance while Emiliano Marcondes saw his close range header float just over the bar.

However Brentford had to wait until the first minute of the second-half to deservedly break the deadlock as Toney poked home Bryan Mbuemo’s curled cross.

And the forward scored his second to give the Bees a commanding two goal lead just ten minutes later, heading home from five yards after a brilliant ball in from Emiliano Marcondes.

Coventry rarely threatened although Matt Godden’s thunderous volley did strike the bottom of the crossbar late on – much to the relief of Brentford keeper David Raya.

Key Points

Check out all the key talking points and reaction from London Football Scene below…

Key Moment

Ivan Toney’s opener just after the interval sucked the life out of Coventry City and allowed Brentford to play much more comfortably.

Moan of the Match

Despite all their domination, Brentford appear to leave their shooting boots in the dressing room in the opening period – the game should’ve been killed off much earlier.

Talking Point

Despite the departures of Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins over the past month, Brentford put together an assured display – how much more are they than just the ‘BMW’?

Man of the Match

Ivan Toney – another brace for the lively striker and he could have had even more before he was forced off with an injury.

Referee Watch

Andy Woolmer (Northamptonshire) – a decent performance from the man in the middle, getting the big decisions right when it mattered.

Atmosphere

With new Government restrictions coming into place, it seems even more unlikely fans will be able to enjoy Brentford’s new surroundings and performances like this any time soon.

Verdict

A near flawless performance from the Bees led to a relatively straightforward win that could have been much worse for the Sky Blues.
