Charlton Athletic grabbed a late equaliser to secure a huge point in their Championship survival fight with a 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic at the Valley.
It was a blistering start to the game for both sides – Wigan opening the scoring on nine minutes after Jamal Lowe headed in from a yard out following an unfortunate bounce off Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips’ ankle.
Hardly two minutes later, Adam Matthews floated in a deep cross that found the boot of Alfie Doughty, who fired his volley past David Marshall to level the scoring.
Wigan then regained their one goal advantage on 40 minutes thanks to a Kieran Dowell effort after Antonee Robinson fizzed a low cross along the six yard box.
The second-half saw Charlton dominate possession but failed to engineer any clear cut chances aside from a low free-kick from Naby Sarr early on.
But with the game deep into stoppage time they found an equaliser, as Chuks Aneke’s flick on found Macauley Bonne who tucked it into the far corner to secure a point for Charlton.
The result means they are three points clear of the bottom three with Hull City and Luton Town to play later today.
