AFC Wimbledon experienced a night to forget as they crashed to a humiliating 5-0 defeat away to Oxford United.

The Dons never got going as Oxford’s Matty Taylor was twice denied by keeper Joe Day before eventually opening the scoring in the 32nd minute, firing in James Henry’s right-wing cross.

Two minutes later, after a forceful run by Mark Sykes, Nathan Holland made it two with a 20-yard drive and it was 3-0 five minutes into the second-half through Henry’s chip over Day.

Holland then added his second of the night with a low finish after 55 minutes before Taylor rounded off the scoring with a volley in stoppage time.

The result leaves Wimbledon seven points ahead of the drop zone – although third bottom Tranmere Rovers have two games in hand.
