Charlton Athletic’s poor recent league form continued as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Derby County.
The Addicks were 1-0 down after just 10 minutes as Naby Sarr’s loose pass found its way to Martyn Waghorn whose deflected shot was headed in by Jason Knight.
Derby’s celebrations were short-lived though as Krystian Bielik was dismissed for a lunge on Conor Gallagher just seven minutes later.
But despite Alfie Doughty and Albie Morgan having chances, Charlton failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage and continued to struggle to find a creative spark in the final third.
And the Rams eventually punished their wastefulness, Max Bird’s 77th minute cross falling to the unmarked Knight who side-footed past Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips to make it 2-0.
An 83rd-minute penalty from Lyle Taylor after Gallagher was tripped by Curtis Davies gave the Addicks hope but despite a late Ben Dempsey chance, Derby held on for the win.
