Charlton Athletic are now seven games without a win as they endured a frustrating 3-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at The Valley.
The Owls began the sharper of the two sides and Steven Fletcher gave them a 17th minute lead, glancing a wonderfully directed header into the far corner from a Barry Bannan cross.
However, Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri was then made to rue a golden chance to double their lead as league debutant Alfie Doughty drove down the left before setting up Macauley Bonne to bring Charlton level.
The second period saw Sheffield Wednesday dominate as both Bannan and Kadeem Harris were denied by a resolute Dillon Phillips in the Charlton goal.
Jacob Murphy was then adjudged to have been fouled by Erhun Oztumer to leave Fletcher to calmly convert from the spot before an unmarked Atdhe Nihui sealed Wednesday’s win in stoppage time.
