Brentford failed to find an away goal for the first time since October as they fell to a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.
Bradley Dack’s third goal in two games was the difference as he finished off a flowing 11th minute counter-attack in an encounter that also saw the Bees rattle the woodwork and have an effort cleared off the line.
There was also disappointment for QPR who fell to a heavy 4-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Tobias Figueiredo headed Forest in front after 15 minutes and the hosts then had a mountain to climb when Lee Wallace was shown a straight red card for bringing down Joe Lolley early in the second-half.
It took until the 82nd minute for Lewis Grabban to double his side’s lead though before further late goals from Joao Carvalho and Alfa Semedo completed a miserable evening for the Hoops.
In Tuesday’s games, Fulham beat Derby County 3-0 at Craven Cottage to move into third place in the Championship table.
Goals by Bobby Decordova-Reid and Aleksandar Mitrovic in the first-half and a late third by captain Tom Cairney gave Scott Parker’s side a third successive win.
Elsewhere, Millwall fought back to draw 2-2 against Wigan at The Den.
The Latics went ahead through Anthony Pilkington after just three minutes, but Shaun Hutchinson headed in an equaliser from a corner.

Antonee Robinson made it 2-1 after 56 minutes, but Wigan’s lead was short-lived as Matt Smith levelled on the hour.
And finally, Charlton Athletic fell to a surprising 2-1 defeat at struggling Luton Town – despite taking a first-half lead.
Jonathan Leko opened the scoring for the Addicks in the seventh minute before Luton’s Pelly Ruddock and Izzy Brown secured only their second league win in nine games.
