Millwall signed off their disappointing 2018/19 Championship campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

With neither side having anything to play for other than pride, there was a distinct end-of-season feel and predictable flatness to the encounter.

That was temporarily lifted in the 15th minute as Joe Garner opened the scoring for the hosts, smashing home a rebound from a Nick Powell effort.

The Lions thought they had equalised when Ryan Leonard converted Shaun Williams’ corner only for the goal to be disallowed for a foul in the build-up.

Jake Cooper later had an effort cleared off the line by Wigan’s Powell while Lee Gregory also forced a fine save from Wigan stopper Christian Walton.

Millwall may have ended the season in 21st place, four points ahead of relegated third-from-bottom side Rotherham, but nevertheless they have a lot of rebuilding to do this summer.
