Charlton Athletic signed off their League One campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Rochdale ahead of a Play-Off double-header against Doncaster Rovers next week.

The Addicks dominated throughout with Joe Aribo’s sixth minute effort a warning for Dale before the player started and finished a move to open the scoring with a curling 19th minute effort.

Lee Bowyer’s side then doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute when a dangerous Lyle Taylor cross was turned into his own goal by Calvin Andrew under pressure from Ben Purrington.

Two became three just before half-time as Taylor sprung the offside trap from an Albie Morgan through ball to finish with ease one-on-one with Rochdale keeper Josh Lillis.

The second-half saw Charlton in complete control – Taylor, Josh Parker, Morgan and Aribo with a series of chances to extend the lead before Krystian Bielik made it four after a neat one-two with Morgan in the 75th minute.

Charlton Athletic will travel to Doncaster Rovers in the first-leg of the League One Play-Offs on Sunday May 12th (kick-off 12:15) before returning to The Valley on Friday, May 17th.

Key Points

Check out all the key talking points and reaction from London Football Scene below…

Key Moment

Lyle Taylor’s goal just before the interval put any potential doubts of a comfortable Charlton win to bed.

Moan of the Match

Hard to find fault in an impressive Charlton performance – although perhaps Rochdale could have put up more of a fight despite having nothing to play for.

Talking Point

Is luck smiling on the Addicks as results mean they escape Play-Off encounters with both Portsmouth and Sunderland?

Man of the Match

Joe Aribo – from the first whistle to the last, the forward was a constant menace for the Rochdale backline.

Tweet of the Match

Referee Watch

Charles Breakspear (Surrey) – only one key decision to make which he got wrong as Rochdale’s Jimmy Keohane escaped with only a caution for bringing down Josh Parker clear on goal in the second period.

Atmosphere

A carnival atmosphere from the Charlton faithful as their side put on an impressive end of season show.

Verdict

A perfect end to the campaign, a routine Charlton win before the real work begins again in the Play-Offs.
