Millwall moved closer to Championship survival with an uninspiring goalless draw against Stoke City at The Den.

The visitors edged an uneventful opening 45 minutes as James McClean struck the bar before Joe Allen’s effort on the rebound was blocked on the line by Alex Pearce.

Neil Harris’s side offered little throughout with the Lions first and only shot on target coming in the 51st minute – Jed Wallace forcing Stoke keeper Jack Butland into a fine save from an acute angle.

Lee Gregory also spurned a glorious opportunity to steal an unlikely victory late on as the forward sent a last-minute effort over the bar from just a few yards out.

The result leaves Millwall four points clear of third-bottom Rotherham United with the Millers away to West Bromwich Albion later this afternoon.

Rotherham will need to claim at least draw, due to the Lions vastly superior goal difference, in order to take the relegation fight to the final day of the season.

Key Points

Key Moment

Lee Gregory’s 89th minute miss could have all but secured the Lions Championship survival.

Moan of the Match

Another poor league game at The Den in 2019 – what is with Millwall’s home form?

Talking Point

A lack of impact substitutions could prove costly for Neil Harris’s side with Fred Onyedinma and Jiri Skalak constantly sat on the bench….

Man of the Match

Jed Wallace – his direct running and pace caused what few problems Stoke City had, although his end-product let him down.

Tweet of the Match

Referee Watch

Oliver Langford (West Midlands) – inconsistent throughout.

Atmosphere

The away fans were louder than the home support, who were clearly nervous with so much at stake.

Verdict

Millwall staying up looks likely to come as a result of the failure of others than from their own abilities.
