First-half goals from Joe Aribo and Josh Cullen gave Charlton Athletic a comfortable 2-0 win over Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium.
Aribo opened the scoring for the Addicks in the 24th minute, latching onto Ben Purrington’s cross and beating the unsighted Gills keeper Tomas Holy.
And a Holy mistake shortly before the break saw Charlton double their advantage as the stopper spilled Jonny Williams’ shot into Cullen’s path, who made no mistake from eight yards out.
However Holy did ensure the scoreline was kept respectable in the second period – making excellent saves from both Igor Vetokele and Purrington while Cullen also headed over from an Aribo delivery.
At the other end, Tahvon Campbell forced Dillon Phillips into a good save while Connor Ogilvie’s header over from Luke O’Neill’s corner was the Gills’ other best chance of the game.
The routine victory means Lee Bowyer’s promotion-chasing side have now made it nine wins from 12 and are just two points off third-placed Portsmouth.
