Millwall’s four-game unbeaten run came to an end with a 1-0 away defeat to Aston Villa.

The Villans dominated the early exchanges and should have broken the deadlock after nine minutes through Anwar El Ghazi’s header.

The Lions were then denied by a stunning Jed Steer save from Jed Wallace before Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia nearly capitalised on poor defending at the other end.

However, Kodjia did break the deadlock in the 30th minute, bundling the ball home after El Ghazi had rolled a low cross into the penalty area.

El Ghazi then had a free-kick well saved by Millwall stopper David Martin as Villa began to dominate.

Further chances came for Villa in the second half with Martin again denying El Ghazi as well as Jack Grealish and Andre Green.

The defeat means Millwall remain deep in the Championship relegation fight, one place above the drop zone.
