Brentford fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Championship strugglers Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

The hosts began impressively and blasted into a two-goal lead within the opening 15 minutes, both courtesy of Yakou Meite.

First the Ivorian latched on to a Mo Barrow pass and calmly beat Brentford keeper Luke Daniels (8) before glancing Lewis Baker’s free-kick in to double the Royals’ advantage.

The Bees responded positively, with Neal Maupay pouncing on an Emiliano Martinez fumble from Said Benrahma’s free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

Reading could have added to their tally in the second period only to squander a series of chances with Baker and Meite going close while also remaining resolute at the back.

Brentford have now won just one of their last seven games but remain comfortably 14th in the table.
