Charlton Athletic claimed a third straight league victory with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
The in-form Addicks started on the front foot with Igor Vetokele denied by a fine save from Wycombe stopper Ryan Allsop as early as the third minute.
However they eventually broke the deadlock just past the half-hour mark as Jason Pearce slotted home Josh Cullen’s cross to send the travelling South London club’s fans into delirium.
Struggling Wycombe could have rescued a point in the second-half though – Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips producing a brilliant point-blank range save from Scott Kashket’s effort.
Phillips then denied Adebayo Akinfenwa and Adam El-Abd while Charlton had a chance to extend their lead late on when Pearce’s header was kept out by Allsop.
Lee Bowyer’s side are now just four points off second-placed Sunderland with five games to play – although the Black Cats do have a game in hand.
