Brentford claimed a point against Wigan Athletic after a low-key goalless draw at the DW Stadium.

The Bees started brightly as Neal Maupay saw an early effort drag wide before Reece James’ audacious 35 yard strike for the Latics was tipped over by Brentford stopper Luke Daniels.

The hosts also nearly took the lead seconds after the interval but Daniels got the better of Wigan’s Gavin Massey one-on-one.

At the other end, Latics’ Walton saved well from Said Benrahma, with Kamohelo Moketjo also firing just wide.

Daniels then denied Chey Dunkley before Wigan’s Anthony Pilkington saw an effort ruled out for offside.

The home side continued to create the better chances, and Dunkley was again denied late on when his header ricocheted off the crossbar.

The result means Brentford have now failed to score in their last three games, picking up just one point from a possible nine.
