After a heartbreaking FA Cup Quarter-Final defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, Millwall return to league action on Saturday to face promotion chasers Leeds United at Elland Road (kick-off 3pm).
The last time the Lions were on the road in the league they picked up a third away win of the season with a Ben Thompson double sealing victory at Birmingham City.
Since then the Blues have been dragged into the Championship relegation battle after a nine point deduction for breaching EFL financial regulations.
Birmingham still have to face a number of sides in and around the drop zone, with Millwall boss Neil Harris stating this week he thought the punishment should have been harsher.
Either way, after the success of the midfield three at St Andrew’s, it seems likely Thompson will come straight back into the side for Shaun Williams after being cup-tied against Brighton.
Ben Marshall and Fred Onyedinma are also in contention, with the latter not enjoying much game time since returning from his loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers in January.
With Shane Ferguson suspended Marshall would be the favourite to come in on the left-hand side, although Aiden O’Brien was excellent against the Seagulls in the role against Brighton.
One option in order to enable O’Brien to keep his place in the starting XI would be to see Marshall replace the below-par James Meredith as a makeshift full-back.
Elsewhere, it would be hard to see Alex Pearce drop out after his impressive FA Cup performance while, despite his error in that game, David Martin is likely to retain his place in goal with Jordan Archer only just returning to training.
Meanwhile, hosts Leeds United are without defender Pontus Jansson as well as former Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla (suspended) which could give Millwall hope of another epic Elland Road victory after last season’s 4-3 heroics.
It’s perhaps doubtful judging by the host’s performances this season but then again, anything is possible…
Prediction: 2-1 Leeds United
