Brentford’s seven-game Griffin Park winning run came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

In swirling wind, the Bees started the brightest with Baggies stopper Sam Johnstone pulling off a series of saves to deny Said Benrahma (twice), Julian Jeanvier and Yoann Barbet.

However it was the visitors who took the lead in the 51st minute as Kyle Edwards skipped past four challenges before clipping the ball over Brentford keeper Luke Daniels.

The Bees nearly responded immediately with Sergi Canos twice forcing Johnstone into fine saves from long-range efforts while Daniels also had to be alert to Ahmed Hegazi’s curling effort at the other end.

And Daniels continued to keep his side in the game late on, twice denying thunderous Dwight Gayle efforts as West Brom looked to double their advantage.

The result leaves the Bees in 14th place and eight points adrift of the Play-Off spots with nine games left to play.
