Brentford scored twice in three second-half minutes to record a stunning 2-1 victory over promotion-chasing Middlesbrough at the Riverside.

Boro took the lead as early as the sixth minute when Ashley Fletcher pounced on a loose ball after Bees keeper Daniel Bentley spilled Mo Besic’s low drive.

Brentford then had two goals disallowed – first Neal Maupay was deemed to be offside before the striker was then adjudged to have committed a foul as Sergi Canos fired home.

Despite the deficit, Brentford dominated and Canos had another two efforts denied either side of half-time – a thunderous effort that came off the crossbar and a second well saved by Middlesbrough keeper Darren Randolph.

However, the breakthrough they deserved eventually came in the 70th minute as Ryan Shotton turned Henrik Dalsgaard’s drive into his own net.

That was followed by Said Benrahama’s winner three minutes later to give Brentford only their second away win of the season.
