A 95th-minute Joe Pigott penalty gave AFC Wimbledon a dramatic 4-3 victory over Rochdale and a precious three points in their battle to avoid League One relegation.
The hosts took the lead as early as the second minute through Ethan Ebanks-Landell before Pigott grabbed his first of the evening with a low drive into the bottom of the corner (36).
Dale’s response was instantaneous, Ethan Hamilton making it 2-1 at the interval with a rasping effort which beat Don’s keeper Aaron Ramsdale at his near post.
But Wimbledon rallied through Pigott once again early in the second period before Anthony Wordsworth put them in front for the first time with 14 minutes to go.
However Ian Henderson’s 81st-minute equaliser looked to have rescued a point for Rochdale before Pigott grabbed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Wimbledon’s second consecutive league win means they are now within five points of safety.
