Brentford fell to a first league defeat in seven with a 2-1 loss against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Forest opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Lewis Grabban latched onto a ball over the top and beat Brentford stopper Daniel Bentley at the second time of asking.

In a scrappy first-half, Forest could have doubled their lead through Joe Lolley and Leo Bonatini while Costel Pantilimon was called into action to deny both Yoann Barbet and Neal Maupay at the other end.

After the break Henrik Dalsgaard cleared off the line from Forest’s Diogo Goncalves while Brentford’s Romaine Sawyers saw a powerful low strike rebound of the post.

And when Forest were awarded a penalty for a foul on Grabban, Bentley did brilliantly to deny the forward as well as the rebounded header from Ben Watson.

Substitute Molla Wague then made it 2-0 from a corner in the 79th minute before Brentford grabbed a consolation through Sergi Canos (89).
