Former old-boy Leon Clarke came back to haunt QPR as they fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Wigan Athletic.
Steve McClaren’s side started well enough with Nahki Wells and Luke Freeman forcing Latics keeper Jamie Jones into a fine double save before Josh Windass opened the scoring for Wigan (8).
Overall the hosts deserved the lead at the interval and doubled their advantage 10 minutes into the second period when Clarke was quickest to react to a deflected cross to stab the ball home.
Hoops substitute Bright Osayi-Samuel then set-up a nervy last 15 minutes, making it 2-1 with a deflected long-range effort which wrong-footed Jones.
As QPR searched for an equaliser, defender Toni Leistner hit the bar and a Matt Smith header went wide but Wigan held firm.
The result means Wigan go further clear of the relegation zone while QPR remain 14th, eight points off the play off places.
