AFC Wimbledon’s winless streak extended to six league games after a 1-0 defeat away to promotion-chasing Sunderland.

The Dons dominated the first-half and should have taken the lead in the 8th minute when Will Nightingale blazed over the bar from six yards out.

And the same player went close shortly before the half-hour mark when Reece James’ clearance rebounded off the defender and wide of the post.

Sunderland offered little in return but took a fortuitous 67th minute lead when Aiden McGeady capitalised on a Tennai Watson mistake to rifle home.

And although Scott Wagstaff had a low effort well saved by Sunderland stopper Jon McLaughlin late on, the Black Cats held on for all three points.

The result leaves Wimbledon bottom, nine points from safety while Sunderland leapfrog Charlton Athletic into fourth – three points behind second-placed Barnsley.
