AFC Wimbledon fell to their second Kingsmeadow defeat in the space of three days with a poor 3-0 loss to Fleetwood Town.

After losing 4-1 to promotion-chasing Barnsley on Saturday, the Dons were second-best on a bitterly cold evening as the visitors raced into a two-goal lead within half-an-hour.

Fleetwood’s Ched Evans opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Ross Wallace’s rasping drive cannoned off the post for the forward to tap-in from close range.

And Evans then made it two when Wes Burns and Paddy Madden combined well before the latter’s shot was parried into the Welshman’s path to double his tally for the night.

The second-half saw the visitors rarely troubled and substitute Ashley Hunter made it three when Evans’ effort was palmed into the air with the forward heading home the rebound (83).

The win sees Fleetwood climb to eighth in the table while AFC Wimbledon are now eight points from League One safety.
