Charlton narrowed the gap at the top of League One with an impressive 3-0 away victory at struggling Shrewsbury Town.
With league leaders Portsmouth losing and Sunderland and Luton sharing a point apiece in their encounter, goals from Lyle Taylor, Darren Pratley and Karlan Grant ensured the Addicks piled on the pressure.
In an even first-half, Shrewsbury’s Josh Laurent was denied by an excellent saved from Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips before Taylor opened the scoring from close range in the 26th minute.
However the second period saw Charlton dominate with Grant forcing Shrewsbury’s Steve Arnold into a save before Pratley doubled the Addicks’ advantage with a fine effort from the edge of the penalty box (54).
Grant, a constant menace throughout, then made it three in the 79th-minute when he won and converted a penalty after a clumsy Shrewsbury challenge.
The result now leaves Charlton fourth but crucially only three points behind second-placed Luton Town who sit in the automatic promotion places.
