Substitute Neal Maupay’s spot-kick was enough to seal a hard-fought FA Cup win for Brentford over League One outfit Oxford.

Minutes after coming off the bench the Frenchman latched onto a fine through ball from Yoann Barbet, only to be clipped in the box by Curtis Nelson.

Maupay duly stepped up to send Oxford keeper Simon Eastwood the wrong way as Brentford dominated throughout without taking a host of chances.

In a largely one-sided first-half the Bees were left frustrated as Barbet, Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva and Moses Odubajo all had opportunities to break the deadlock.

However, the visitors stood firm and had chances themselves – most notably when Bee’s keeper Luke Daniels misjudged James Henry’s angled drive.

The second-period saw Ollie Watkins go close while former Brentford midfielder John Mousinho fired a volley wide when well placed just 12 yards out.

And although Oxford rallied after Maupay’s 80th minute penalty, the Bees held on with Daniels tipping Marcus Browne’s dipping effort over the bar late on.
